Vipervette is the latest project to kill two performance nameplates in one go

The 1986 Vipervette is exactly what you think it is: part Dodge Viper, part Corvette, all painful. Riding on a 1986 Corvette chassis, the Vipervette is said to have inherited its body (and not much else, apparently) from a 2000 Dodge Viper. Because of this hodge-podge mix of machinery, we have a car with some very awkward proportions.

The car is motivated by the '86 Vette's power train - a 5.7-liter V8 and a 4-speed stick - so don't expect to be going anywhere in too much of a hurry. Inside is more of the 1980's, with the Corvette interior color-coded to line up with the Viper exterior (meaning it's the mighty played-out red and black).

We're Goin' Surfin': Rental Corvette Abandoned in Pacific Ocean [With Videos]

Some presumably drunk people out California way decided to have a little bit too much fun in their recently-rented Corvette and ended up parked in salt water halfway up the car's doors. Thankfully in this day and age everyone has some sort of video recording device within arm's reach, so we have some post-parking-surfing videos below.

Chevrolet Video Teases 2010 SEMA Show Tunes

Next up on our motor show calendar is the biggest tuning event of 2010, the SEMA gathering in Las Vegas, and like every year, GM will be there with a huge display of vehicles. This time, the General is video-teasing some of the Chevrolet models that will descend on the Las Vegas convention center next month including several Corvettes, Silverados and you guessed it, a boat-load of Camaro builds. Scroll down to watch the clip.

Australia: The Pricey World of Right-Hand Drive Conversions

Car buyers in Australia and other RHD countries have long got the short end of the stick in terms of American muscle cars. The reason is quite simple: they drive on the "wrong" side of the road.

Most manufacturers are unwilling to do right-hand-drive conversions on what are essentially specialist models: cars like the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang and the like. There just aren't enough buyers to rationalize the cost.

Fortunately, a cottage industry (or rather a man-in-a-shed industry) has popped up offering RHD conversions of American muscle cars for eager buyers in countries like Australia, the UK and Japan.

Dealership Guard takes $111,000 Corvette ZR1 for a spin, posts video on Youtube...

We finally found someone that makes Lloyd and Harry [that would be the dynamic duo from Dumb & Dumber] look like Mensa candidates. Meet the now unemployed, but as-of-yet unnamed, security guard at the Dallas Auto Auction in Dallas, Texas.

This bright young man not only gave in to his urges upon seeing a brand new $111,000 Corvette ZR1 in the secured parking lot (that, we could try to understand), but also had the brilliant idea to film his joy ride and upload the video that showed his face as well as the car's dealer plate on Youtube.

Next Corvette Stays the Course, Mid-Engine Layout but May Gain Hybrid

Plain and simple: no mid-engined Corvette, maybe a hybrid, and a statement that GM is not testing any V6s in the Corvette (yet). That's from GM's global vehicle engineering VP Karl-Friedrich Stracke, and it's fine by me. Spend wisely, slowly upgrade the program, don't rock the boat.

The Mid-Engine and Dual-clutch Transmission:

Stracke decided to finally bury the mid-engine rumors once and for all by "quashing [them]" under his corporate boot heel. Also, he decided to let PR clarify that there is no dual-clutch transmission on the way. For those of you wondering about that, Autocar heard from a Saab source that just such a transmission was developed while Saab was still part of GM.

Tons of Videos from Transformers 3 Shooting in Chicago, Including Scenes with Camaro, Ferrari 458 and Corvette Stingray Roadster

Michael Bay and his crew have been taking over the streets of downtown Chicago in July filming numerous scenes for the Transformers 3 movie, which is due for release in summer of 2011. With all the commotion from the shooting, it was inevitable that hundreds of people would gather around and capture a bunch of videos from the set.

Some of the Transformer cars that were snagged on film in Chicago include the Bumblebee Camaro, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mercedes-Benz E-Class (most likely the E63 AMG), several NASCAR racers and the topless version of the Corvette Stingray Concept. We've pasted the most interesting video clips we found on Youtube right after the jump.

Corvette Undergoes Freaky Transformation into Ferrari F40

Just because you can't own a real Ferrari, doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go and butcher one up for the sake of fulfilling your desires... And while this here Corvette C4-based replica of the Ferrari F40, which was spotted hiding out in a garage somewhere in Spain, isn't the worst one we've seen to date (that award probably goes to the 1980s Suzuki mini-based Faux 40), it's not a pretty sight to behold, that's for sure. More photos of the "Ferrvette" F40 clone after the jump.

Street Legal Batmobile Replica from Tim Burton Films found for Sale [with Videos]

Perhaps the second best-known Batmobile after George Barris' iconic 1966 Lincoln Futura conversion from the Batman TV series is the Anton Furst Batmobile from Tim Burton's 1989 Batman and 1992 Batman Returns films. We found a rather convincing replica of that car for sale on eBay.

Not only is this example of the 1990s Batmobile nice-looking, it's also street legal - at least in the State of Ohio where the seller is based. The Bat-winged replica was built by a company named "Putsch Racing" and it makes use of a tube frame chassis with a Corvette drive-train and an independent suspension.

It comes equipped with a canopy that opens and is fitted with various gizmos including retractable machine guns that fire blanks. Hit the jump for more photos and videos of the car in motion.

eBay Find: Genaddi Corvette Z06 LSR Roadster Prototype

One of show-stoppers of the 2006 SEMA gathering in Las Vegas, the Corvette Z06-based Genaddi LSR Roadster, is now up for auction on eBay Motors. Built by the Genaddi Design Group, the one-off custom roadster ditches most of the Corvette Z06's composite and carbon fiber body panels for ones made of aluminum. It also features a rather awkward-looking new rear-end design with protruding tail lamps that bring to mind the Ferrari Enzo and a customized interior.

VIDEO: Corvette Z06 Slams BMW M3 During "Reality TV Series" Rally - But Wait, There's More to This Story...

Found on Youtube, is this video of a Corvette Z06 losing control and ferociously crashing into a BMW M3 E36 parked on the side of the road during the amateur "Robin Hood Rally" in Tuxedo, NY on June 25/26, 2010.

According to the poster, even though there were plenty of spectators at the scene, and despite the fact that the driver of the BMW was inside the car at the time of the crash, no one was seriously injured. End of story? Not quite, as there is more to this story than what meets the eye.

First of all, the rally is pitched by the organizers as a reality show with amateur racers driving "on closed public roads in the heartland of America", which will air on television in Fall 2010.

A search on "The Robin Hood Rally [website]" returned some very interesting findings, including another serious crash during the first race of the series in May, and more intriguingly, a report from NBC stating that promotional material from "Robin Hood Rally" falsely claimed that the series would air on NBC...

Corvette Stingray Roadster and Possibly Ferrari 458 Caught on Set of Transformers 3

The new roadster version of the Corvette Stingray was caught on video along with the Bumblebee Camaro and what appears to be a Ferrari 458 Italia during filming of the Transformers 3 movie. In the previous Transformers film, the tin-top Corvette Stingray coupe took the form of Sideswipe. We're still short on details, but we assume that the roadster model will reprise the same role. The next Transformers movie is scheduled for release in July 2011. Watch the video clip after the break.

Racer X Design Transforms Ultima GTR to RZ Ultima

You may or may not have heard of the Ultima GTR, but in a nutshell, it's one of the wackiest supercars around famously holding the Guinness world record for sprinting from zero to 100mph (160km/h) and back to zero again.

Fitted with a 720bhp Chevrolet V8 engine, the 990 kg British-built GTR720 completed the 0-100mph-0 acceleration and braking run in a mere 9.4 seconds.

Fast as it may be, the Ultima GTR is no beauty - at least not in a Ferrari kind-of-way. That's where 'Racer X Design' steps in. The Malta-based company, which some might remember from cars like the Alfa Romeo GTV Evoluzione and the KC427 Cobra, has presented a new design proposal for the Ultima GTR.

Report: Corvette C7 to Receive Heavy Redesign, C8 to go Radical with Mid-Mounted V6

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about General Motors' plans for the new Corvette, dubbed C7, that will hit the market by 2012. Now, Autoweek is bringing news on the for the next major model change, the C8, that's expected to be released after 2016.

While the Corvette C7 will essentially be a reskinned version of the current generation C6 with the emphasis said to be on interior quality and making the exterior styling more desirable to younger buyers in the States as well as to a broader international crowd, the C8 will ground-breaking, to say the least, if we are to believe the report.

Race Retro 2010: Old-School Racers at their Shiniest - 180 Stunning Photos

Race Retro, billed as "Europe's premier historic Motorsport Show", recently wrapped up in Coventry. Carscoop reader and professional photographer Dario Carbone was there to take some special pics, which he was nice enough to put in our cold, dead hands.

He says "It's an event to commemorate the legends of Rally and other historic race cars. It also has a live rally stage where they run the group B monsters and allow those who weren't around in the early 80s to experience their brute force." Yes, please.

Now if I could find a poster of the jet-engine-to-the-face warning label, that would just be tops.

There's a gallery below; you know what to do. As always, let us know what you like in the comments section.

Just Say No: 1973 Corvette StingRay Sports Wagon Conversion for Sale

Creating something different to stand out from the crowd can often have the wanted results but not in the positive way one might expect. Or at least that's what we think about this 1973 Corvette StingRay that appears to have been butchered into a shooting-brake-like model for the sole purpose of calling it "originality"... Nevertheless, if you're interested, it's up for sale on eBay with a 'Buy it Now' price of "only" $25,000. More pics after the break.

GM Wants to Lure More Non-Old, Non-Americans with New Corvette C7

GM is about to try something new: making Chevrolet's Corvette appeal to international markets. The General is soliciting designs from all ten of its styling studios, meaning that more than just American-market brains are weighing in.

The goal is to bring in younger buyers from the States, while also help gain sales in the all-important European market, among others.

"We have challenges in the States with the Corvette," Welburn told journalists in an interview at the Geneva Salon. "The average age of the customer is really rising." According to J.D. Power and Associates, the current average age of a Corvette buyer is 54.
