Amen: Ferrari Finally Admits 458 Italia Fire Risks, Recalling 1,148 Cars

It took 11 accidents involving the freshly launched 458 Italia with five of them being ruined by fire, and a whole lot of media attention from the internet, for Ferrari to finally investigate the issue and announce a total recall on their latest supercar.

Being that Ferrari considers itself as something out of this world that is not subject to the same unwritten rules as the rest of the automakers, the company did not publish a broadly available press release to inform the media, and consequently, the public, about a problematic product that puts at a fiery risk the lives of its clients. Instead, the Italian brand simply answered questions to individual media outlets such as CNN through its spokespersons.

VIDEO: This is what a Ferrari 458 Italia on fire looks like on film

With so many Ferrari 458 Italia super-duper-cars going flambé on their owners, it was just a matter of time when someone would get one roasting on film. This prime example of Italy's hottest model was cooked somewhere in China's eastern coast.

We'll remind you that Ferrari has admitted through its UK spokesperson that it is currently investigating the 458 fires. According to media reports, in the past three months, a total of 11 Ferrari 458 Italia models (including this latest incident in China) have crashed with five of them being ruined by fire. Grab a bag of chips and enjoy the short film "A qualcuno piace caldo" right after the break.

Surprise, Surprise: Ferrari looking into 458 Italia Fires

Turns out that we're not the only ones to think that the unusually high number of brand-new Ferrari 458s catching fire, is well, at tad suspicious, to say the least. So does Ferrari which is looking into the potential issue. While at least 10 Ferrari 458s have been involved in accidents since the beginning of the year, Ferrari is investigating three specific cases in which the supercar caught fire. One of those cars was roasted in a storage facility blaze at London's Heathrow airport.

Rental Ferrari 458 Italia gets a Nasty Nose Job

We know, we know and we know (click the highlighted links) that a Ferrari 458 Italia crashing or burning up is hardly news these days. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised at all if the number of wrecked 458s exceeds Maranello's available production capacity... At least this dark gray (or is that black?) example is said to have been a rental car hired from a company in the UK. More photos after the jump.

Follow the break to watch the film showing the 458 Italia revving its 570HP 4.5-liter V8 one day and making love to a tree the next.

Ferrari 458 Challenge Testing Continues [New Photos]

Being a racing model, it's only fitting for Ferrari to inform us that professional drivers are taking part in the fine-tuning of the newly born 458 Challenge. The pilots that took on the role of test driver at the Vallelunga circuit this week were Maurizio Mediani from Italy and Jaime Melo from Argentina who currently races a F430 GT2 in the American Le Mans Series for Team Risi Competizione.

The Italian supercar maker also released a new batch of pictures of the track-only version of the mid-engined 458 Italia, which is set to compete in Ferrari's one-make series starting from 2011. Check them out after the jump.

Michael Bay and his crew have been taking over the streets of downtown Chicago in July filming numerous scenes for the Transformers 3 movie, which is due for release in summer of 2011. Once Upon a Time, this Heap of Metal was a Ferrari 458 Italia...

We know; aside from the alloy wheels, it's hard to imagine by looking at these pictures that the heap of crumpled metal was once a Ferrari 458 Italia. Little is known about the accident other than it reportedly took place somewhere in France after the supercar's V8 engine caught on fire. If true, it is not the first time that this has happened as another example of the 458 Italia -again in France - went up in flames earlier this month. More photos after the break.

Ferrari Debuts 458 Challenge Track Racer

The new 458 Challenge that is destined to race in the onemake 2011 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli series was revealed today during an annual dealer meeting in Maranello, Italy. While the direct injection 4.5-liter V8 with an output of 570-horsepower at 9,000 rpm remains stock, Ferrari's engineers went ahead and made changes to the gear ratios and calibration of the dual-clutch F1 gearbox to improve torque at lower revs.

Corvette Stingray Roadster and Possibly Ferrari 458 Caught on Set of Transformers 3

The new roadster version of the Corvette Stingray was caught on video along with the Bumblebee Camaro and what appears to be a Ferrari 458 Italia during filming of the Transformers 3 movie. In the previous Transformers film, the tin-top Corvette Stingray coupe took the form of Sideswipe. We're still short on details, but we assume that the roadster model will reprise the same role. The next Transformers movie is scheduled for release in July 2011. Watch the video clip after the break.

VIDEO: Ferrari 458 Italia vs. Porsche GT3 - The Comparison

Sent over by Señor Chris Harris from EVO were these tasty videos featuring an "unauthorized comparo" between Ferrari's 458 Italia and Porsche's GT3 RS. According to Mr. Harris, "I'm probably banned from Maranello for life. Hey-ho. At least I got to rinse a 458 and a GT3 RS."

HEY-HO indeed.

For an interesting run-through and comparison of these two track-day supercars (Ferrari isn't releasing the 458 Scuderia/track model for a while), check out the vids after the jump. Don't forget, we over here aren't afraid of no stinkin' Ferrari. I'm watching you, Montezemolo.

Ferrari California Rear-Ends BMW 5-Series

In other case, this fender-bender would be just another accident, but since it concerns a new Ferrari California it obviously caught our attention. The only thing we know about the incident is that the California rear-ended a BMW 5-Series and that its owner will definitely pay a hefty price to repair the Italian coupe-convertible. High-res pics after the jump.
