Hyundai Becomes Preferred Supplier for UK Police

Bob Dylan once said, "The Times They Are A-Changin'." If you lived in Britain in the 1950s and '60s, you'd see custodian helmeted policemen driving around in Morris Minors and Ford Anglias. In the '70s you'd see mustachioed policemen driving around in Ford Consuls and Rover 3500s. Then the '80s rolled around and there were policemen and women cruising around in Rover SD1s and Land Rovers.

Designed to "complement the sedan", the Explorer Pursuit will be available for order next to the sedan when the Crown Vic finally passes away (so don't be shy about trying something new, 5-0!). It will also be 20% more efficient than the outgoing Panther-based cruiser.

The announcement comes after officers across the five boroughs began testing copped-out Nissan Altima hybrids this time last year.

NYPD spokesman John McCarthy explains, "These [Altimas] were the first hybrids outfitted with a police package being used for patrol. We wanted to see how they held up after being subjected to use on patrol. After a year of use, the feedback has been positive."

Smackdown: Ford's Taurus Police Interceptor vs. GM's Chevy Caprice PPV

Another battle has begun in the Ford / GM war: who's got the better new police car, Ford with its Taurus Police Interceptor or GM with its Chevrolet Caprice PPV? One thing sure to be a hot topic is both companies' shift in platform choices.

GM is ditching the front-wheel-drive Impala option and going back to a big, rear-wheel drive vehicle with the Zeta-based Caprice.

As our Aussie friends know, the Caprice is a re-grilled Holden Caprice / Statesman which in turn is a more luxurious, long wheelbase version of the Holden Commodore / Pontiac G8.

Ford, on the other hand, is doing the exact opposite; they're tossing the big, rear-wheel-drive (and geriatric) Panther platform and offering up front- and all-wheel drive Tauruses.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Italian Police Car Crashes Into Parked Vehicles

Only a year after joining the ranks of the Italian State Police, and the world famous Lamborghini LP560-4 Polizia has been totaled in a weird crash that occurred near Cremona this past weekend. Italy's Corriere Della Sera newspaper reported that the police officer in the 560-horsepower 'Raging Bull' supercar was allegedly cruising on the road when a vehicle pulled out all of a sudden from of a petrol station.

In order to avoid a head-on collision, the police officer swerved and crashed into a couple of parked cars. As you can see in the photo shots in the video below, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 ended up, or rather under a Mercedes-Benz A-Class...

The newspaper said that the police officers in the driver and passenger seat of the Lamborghini were slightly injured.
